WHY FELA MARRIED SO MANY WIVES!!!!!!!

In 1976, Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti introduced Duro Ikujenyo to the public at the regular Sunday Jump in the Afrika Shrine as one of the secretaries of the Young African Pioneers (YAP). Later, Duro became a research and founding member of Fela’s Movement of the People (MOP) and went on to write, albeit with Fela, the organisation’s manifesto. However, in 1979, Duro took a decision that changed his life permanently.

He joined Fela’s Egypt 80 band as a rhythm pianist, thus emerging the first of its kind in Afrobeat. Together with Fela, Duro recorded monumental hits including Unknown Soldier, Perambulation, Original Surferhead, Coffin for Head of State, Authority Stealing, ITT, Power Show, Army Arrangement, Africa, Centre of the World, and MOP.
In this rare encounter with Blockbuster, Duro recalled his days with Fela and talked about his wave-making CD, Tribute to Fela. Enjoy:

Encounter with Fela
“My meeting with Fela was divine. We met at the hospital in 1974. He was caught with India Hemp and was beaten by the police, and admitted at LUTH where I went to greet him. It was Lemi Ghariokwu that took me to him. All this while, I have been hearing about Fela and was eager to meet him. As a student of Lagos Anglican Boys Grammar School, I used to buy Fela’s albums. I particularly fell in love with Water No Get Enemy because it has depth. The lyrics are spiritual and melodious. To me its Fela’s best song.

In the hospital, I said hello and kept watching him. From that day, Lemi and I were regular faces at Sunday Jump at the Afrika Shrine. We used to sit in the front row and the managers would reserve chairs for us. We came in free of charge. But our parents didn’t know that we were patronizing the Shrine or else they’ll kill us. I was a chorister in the church but I’ll skip church for the Shrine. To me, church was dull but Fela’s Shrine was lively.

The Egypt 80 band

“I studied music at the Royal College of Music in London between 1074 and 78. I wanted to go to the Polytechnic but Fela said ‘no, you know a lot already. Go on and develop yourself’. When I finished school, I met Fan Fairrax who introduced me into jazz music, gave me tapes and books to read. Later, I started playing piano, then joined Fela’s Egypt 80 band. I was the first rhythm pianist of the band. I recorded many albums with Fela including Unknown Soldier, Perambulation, Original Surferhead, Coffin for Head of State, Authority Stealing, ITT, Power Show, Army Arrangement, Africa, Centre of the World and MOP.

Greatest moment with Fela

One of my unforgettable moments was the day Fela introduced me into the band. It was May 25, 1979. From that day, I became his pianist. We also had more than 60 lectures together at various universities in the country. Before any lecture, I would do research and compile references for Fela. We actually had many great moments together. Indeed, Fela was fun to stay with.

What Fela taught me

“Fela taught me that Africans started civilization. He spoke glowingly of the Egyptian pyramids. He gave me some books like Blackman of the Nile by Ben Y. Johana and Stolen Legacy to read. Fela told me how philosophers like Plato and Aristotle came to Egypt to learn philosophy, which formed the bedrock of western civilization. All these changed my life. Fela also taught me to know myself. He always told me to find out what’s best for me and pursue it with all vigour. I wanted to study accountancy but when I told him I had passion for music, he encouraged me. He said, ‘why study accountancy when you have passion for music? If music is best for you, go for it.’ That’s how I enrolled for correspondence course in music at the Royal College of Music, London.

Negative influence

“To be honest, Fela was a victim of circumstances. When Fela started in the 1960s, he was not smoking Igbo (Indian Hemp). Fela had so much freedom because of his environment. To me, Igbo is against the system and I will not advise anybody to smoke it. But today in Europe, more than three million people smoke Indian hemp. When I left Fela, my father took me to a psychiatrist to determine my mental state because everybody in Fela’s house smoked including me.

Fela and women
“To me, monogamy is colonial. Like I told you, Fela was a victim of circumstances. Women were easily attracted to him. Most of the women around Fela came to the Shrine and were hooked to him. Most of the girls were school dropouts and lacked education so, when Fela’s house was burnt, he decided to marry all of them because they had nowhere to go.

Age of Aquarius

“I believe that the age of Pisces is gone. We are right now in the Age of Aquarius. I formed my band, the Age of Aquarius in 1985. It is a three-man band that plays jazz, highlife and Afrobeat in clubs. We used to play in Jazz 38, Sheraton Hotels, Hotel Bobby, Ariya Nite Club and Stadium Hotel among others. In 1996, I did a compilation CD entitled “Ede Gidi”. Gboyega Oyedele produced it. The CD features 13 songs from artistes like Ras Kinomo, Kayode Olajide and I. My own contribution is “Invention”. After this, Jazzhole asked me to do an album entitled “Ase”, which I have started working on. It’s going to be a remix of some songs and will be released in December. The album would parade songs like Surulerre, Ase, Oyeku, Dada and Oriki Olorun among others.

Tribute to Fela
“My current CD is entitled “Tribute to Fela”. It’s a 10-tracker, which I did as a reminder of the past for the present and the future. My own generation never had the opportunity of listening to some of Fela’s songs like Bonfo, Lagos Sisi, Onidodo and others. So, I decided to rearrange these songs. I made some of the songs funky so as to be appreciated by the youth, to tell them that highlife is the root of all music. Rap is not our music. Highlife has roots in our language, culture and tradition. It talks about our lives. The album features artistes like Biodun Batik and Seun Olota, and is supported by Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi and Mrs Abiodun of Gold Records. It is getting an incredible response from the public. The CD sold like hot cakes at the last Felabration where I performed with great musicians like Tony Allen, Femi Kuti and Baba Maa from Ivory Coast. People say that no Fela’s band boy can play Afrobeat like him but I have proved them wrong with this album.

TROUBLE IN NOLLYWOOD!!!!!!

Until few years ago, the world knew only two flourishing film blocks. Then it was Hollywood of the United States and Bollywood of Indian. The Nigerian Nollywood joined the fray 16 years ago and showed much promise.

While Nollywood blossomed, many star actresses and actors were discovered. Many of them have even made in-road to Hollywood. Such star actors and actresses include Genevieve Nnaji, who rose to become the Face of Lux; Rita Dominic, Emeka Ike, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde; Ramsey Noah; Jim Iyke; Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Stella Damasus-Aboderin, Ini Edo, Uche Jumbo, Oby Edozieh etc.

Other acting icons, who had made waves in the film industry, joined Nollywood to give it boost and impetus. These include Pete Edochie; Sam Loco-Efe, Ejike Asiegbu, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Bob Manuel-Udokwu, Bimbo Manuel, Segun Arinze; Richard Mofe-Damijo; Enebeli Elebuwa; Joke Silva; Olu Jacobs, Clarion Chukwurah, Eucharia Anunobi, Ngozi Ezeonu etc.

Over the years, Nollywood grew in leaps and bounds. Films or home video were produced in their numbers and the industry became a toast across the world, as the films produced tell the African story to the world that had seen the continent as backward and barbaric. Indeed, there is hardly any part of the world where films produced in Nollywood are not in circulation. In the United States and Britain, Nollywood products are seen as collectors’ items.

However, it appears that Nollywood has reached a point of diminishing return. The industry has been hit by many problems and has therefore started a decline. First, there was the problem of quality, as the producers were accused of churning out films every other week, without caring much about the standard. Second, amateurs joined the industry as actors and actresses, without the requisite training. Three, some of the star actors and actresses got swollen-headed and started breaching contracts after collecting their fees. This led to the delisting of such actors and actresses by producers. Four, pirates swooped the on industry and reaped where they did not sow. Fifth, actors and actresses from neighbouring Ghana become more professional and started dwarfing, as it were, their Nigerian counterparts.

Indeed, in recent times, the Nigerian motion picture industry, has come under severe criticisms, from both stakeholders and keen followers. Their endless worries and fears are premised on the fact that an industry, which began in 1992, with so many promises, is gradually heading for ruins, if urgent and drastic measures are not taken, towards salvaging it.

Observers and pundits are worried that the industry, which started on a very sound footing and reached its peak, between 1998 and 2003, is fast declining and losing patronage, even among its pioneer practitioners.

Indeed, practitioners and bookmakers have attributed several factors as among the reasons the industry, which according to the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), the apex film regulatory body in Nigeria, is worth between 250 and 300 million dollars on an annual basis, is gradually going down the drain.

Speaking recently at the international summit organized by the Movie Reporters Guild of Nigeria (MORGON), and tagged: “Nollywood Our Nollywood,” Mr. Adim Williams, a leading filmmaker and the vice president of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), in his paper entitled: “Dwindling Fortunes of Nollywood: Who takes the blame? lamented heavily on the sorry and deteriorating state of Nollywood.

Expatiating more on his thought provoking paper, Williams painstakingly traced the genesis of the problems bedeviling the industry to several man-made impediments.

He further itemized how the decay in the industry, which is regarded, as the third biggest after US’ Hollywood and India’s Bollywood, reached an abysmal level.

In his submission, Williams, a University of Calabar Theatre Arts graduate, blamed the government, those in the private sector, as well as practitioners, stakeholders and entertainment journalists, adding that they should be held responsible for the dwindling fortunes of the once vibrant and very promising Nollywood.

“Sincerely speaking, Nollywood is on the verge of a total collapse, if urgent salvaging measures are not taken with immediate effect. Our fortunes have drastically dwindled and this concerns the producer, director, actor, scriptwriter, cinematographer, costumier, make-up artist and the rest of the thousands of men and women involved in this incredibly daunting process of making movies in Nigerian. Disorder and lack of professionalism are the bane of Nollywood,” he insisted.

Embittered Williams went further to state other factors militating against the growth of Nollywood, which has, no doubt, helped to positively launder the once battered image of Nigeria, especially on the foreign scene. They include: the unending ignorance of most filmmakers, he argued could not control the phenomenal success Nollywood, brought them at the initial stage.

The Nigerian factor, which usually brings about the proliferation of any booming business by most Nigerians, coupled with the ego-tripping of the industry elite, petty jealousy and mutual suspicion. He further blamed part of the failure of Nollywood on lack of stability and structure in the industry, arrogance and failure of the marketers’ union, constant neglect by government and its agencies as well as other corporate bodies.

“We should also distance ourselves from multiplicity of associations and guilds, which are all working at cross-purposes to achieve seemingly similar goals. A creative industry, like Nollywood does not need to be organized along tribal or sectional lines, but rather along structure, standards, professionalism and proper legislation,” he said.

Williams, is however, happy that despite all these challenges, viewers’ interest in Nollywood movies had not diminished, meaning that the industry could still be salvaged and moved to the highest height, with all hands on deck. Attestation to this fact, is that today, there are several cable stations globally that depend on 24 hour transmission of Nollywood movies and contents. Sadly too, most of them give nothing in return to the industry, thus further contributing to its dwindling fortunes.

Hear Williams again: “What had diminished is the revenue that accrues to the filmmaker and by extension his ability and capacity to continue making good movies in the midst of all these challenges. The talent and ingenuity of the professionals have not diminished. It is only the participation of trained and sound minds in today’s filmmaking concept that has diminished,” he pointed out.

Williams, is of the view that true professionals constantly working for the success of the industry, could reinvent, repackage and reposition the brand Nollywood and take it to the highest level. But without passion, professionalism and total commitment, the above cannot be achieved.

“With the cooperation and support of all stakeholders, government and corporate bodies, we can rekindle the fire in Nollywood and hoist its glorious flag higher into the sky for the rest of the world to see, emulate and applaud,” he submitted.

During a recent visit to The Sun Newspaper, Mr. Emeka Mba, the Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), who spoke on the strategic importance of the agency’s newly introduced Framework Distribution Policy, argued that Nollywood would immediately bounce back the moment practitioners fully embrace the frame-work and professionalize their art.

He further stated that lack of structure, as enshrined in the new Framework Policy, would never guarantee growth in any film industry, especially Nollywood.

“We need to have these fundamentals right; no film industry, globally, has survived without a structure. We want more sense of responsibility in filmmaking by our filmmakers; all these are the factors that will help salvage Nollywood and help make it a global brand. We also want to promote ideals that are beneficial to the industry,” he told Saturday Sun.

The bespectacled DG further called on the Nigerian viewing public to be conscious and always take cognizance of the six major classification symbols, especially as it concerns what children and teenagers watch.

As part of its efforts at regulating and salvaging the industry, the board usually takes critical look at five thematic materials whenever a film is submitted for censorship. These are in the areas of context and impact and include: sex, nudity, violence, drug and imitable techniques. In all of these, the key is context and how the movies impact on the audience.

Also proffering solutions on how to salvage Nollywood and bring it back to its early days of glory, Mr. John Odey, former Minister of Information and Communication, while delivering a speech at the recent presentation of licences to film distributors by the NFVCB in Lagos, maintained that the film industry holds the key to the next level of Nigerian global engagement and economic growth.

In his address entitled, “Driving Sustainable Growth in the Nigerian Film Industry,” Odey noted that the government owed the film sector more than a passing interest, if it must be truly salvaged,” adding: “The opportunities in the film industry are enormous and require the strategic partnership of both the private sector and the government to fully harness. We want our contents to be able to command the respect and envy of its global competitors like Hollywood and Bollywood.

“At the moment, the only assurance that this is possible is through the institutionalization of the goals and visions of the film video-licensing framework.

I wish to assure you that the future government support for the industry will be through the structures of this licensing project, so that we will be able to plan effectively with the knowledge of who is who in the industry, based on correct data and statistics, which at present are evidently lacking.”

Odey, also stressed that distribution is truly the engine room of any film industry, warning that failure to properly harness and manage it effectively, would automatically lead to decline in sales, thus leading to loss in revenue.

He further said globally, a movie is regarded as a gold mine, adding that the key to unlocking such goldmine lies in a robust distribution system, which not only determines the direction and strength, but the contents as well.

Delivering a paper, entitled “Investment in Film Production,” at an even organized by the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and held at the National Theatre, Lagos, Mr. Andrien Gbinigie, a financial consultant and Nollywood executive producer, highlighted some of the major challenges facing filmmakers in Nigeria.

According to him, film financing is one of the most difficult and least understood challenges facing a producer and its fraught with perils for the unwary. He said: “Investing in film is risky and factors like: piracy, absence of coordinated organized distribution system, insincerity of producers and government neglect are all affecting investment in the Nigerian film industry.”

To salvage the critical situation, Gbinigie, said that filmmakers should immediately constitute a formidable alliance devoid of tribal or ethnic bias, with a view to presenting a strong position to government.

He also said that there was the need to cultivate an aggressive media campaign aimed at informing the public about the negative effects of piracy and penalties for offenders.

He also called on producers to raise the standard of their productions, in order to increase viewers’ confidence and interest, as well as improve on distribution, which he argued, was key, if the industry must move to the next level.

Gbinigie, also urged practitioners to immediately draw up a code of practice and ethics, as another means of salvaging the industry and raising the bar of the profession.

In the words of respected filmmaker and critic, Zik Zulu Okafor, in a paper he presented at the dinner marking the end of the Workshop of the Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN), at the Golden Gate Restaurant, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Okafor, one of the few voices always speaking out against bad practices in Nollywood said: “Nollywood still remains a lonely island in the midst of a vast occasion of material prosperity called corporate Nigeria. Corporate organizations in Nigeria still remain largely aloof, standing on the sidewalk and peeping through a prism of suspicion and reservation”.

The above statement succinctly captures the tragedy of our once buoyant industry, which is daily collapsing, due to neglect and disorder inherent in the system.

Also lending his voice, cerebral scholar and director of the Lagos Business School, Prof. Pat Utomi, unarguably, one of the few corporate Nigerians who have passion and high hopes for Nollywood, despite its dwindling fortunes, is optimistic the industry will not die.

Delivering his extempore address as the Guest Speaker at the MORGON international summit on Nollywood, on November 20, 2008, at Ojez, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Utomi, in his speech tagged: “Nollywood and Business Opportunities,” described the motion picture industry as a very serious business that must be treated at such.

He said: “The influential way of motion picture makes it a serious business.”

Utomi further added that culture and not politics promotes progress in a society. He also called for the setting up of a private film fund for the industry, as one of the ways of revamping and consolidating its threatened growth.

The erudite scholar, however, urged government, at all levels, as well as the private sector to support the industry through finances, logistics and any other incentives, for its continued and effective existence.

While speaking at the same event, Mr. Ejike Asiegbu, the national president of the Actors Guild o Nigeria (AGN), challenged his colleagues to always think of what they can do for the industry, instead of always looking for ways of short changing the sector, for their own selfish needs.

Asiegbu, further condemned the activities of pirates and quacks, masquerading as filmmakers, adding that salvaging Nollywood, should be the collective responsibility of all stakeholders and practitioners, irrespective of their guilds, backgrounds or associations.

He was also optimistic that the industry would rise again and take its rightful place in the comity of filmmaking nations globally, if all hands are on deck.

“It is incontestable that Nollywood is the pride of Africa and would continue to maintain its lead in Africa and the world in general,” he said.

Asiegbu, also frowned at the indiscriminate cutting of movies into several parts, recycling of old stories as well as re-entitling old movies in new jackets for selfish commercial purposes. He insisted that such bad practices would never aid growth and professionalism in Nollywood.

He repeatedly warned gatecrashers and those without any meaningful contributions to Nollywood, to leave immediately, adding that the industry is not an all comers’ affairs or dumping ground for ne’er-do-wells.

“Our Special Task Force members are already going round and fishing out these bad eggs. AGN is out to help sanitize this great industry,” he told Saturday Sun.

The popular actor further kicked against the indiscriminate rental of Nollywood movies by unregistered video clubs as well as unauthorized cable TV stations feeding fat on Nollywood contents, warning that the long arms of the law would soon catch up with them and their cronies.

He made a bold promise and even prophesied that Nollywood would stand tall again, the moment all these unwholesome practices impeding its growth are checked and properly controlled.

NAIJA SIXTH ON WORLD"S KIDNAPPING!!!!!

HAITI – Being the least developed country in the Americas, it’s only natural that the Haitians make up for their low income with kidnapping. Furthermore, 80 per cent of the population is living in poverty and over half of the country’s inhabitants are illiterate. Haiti remains an unsafe place to visit, even considering the presence of the UN stabilization force. Kidnappers and street gangs are thriving in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.

The targets include rich Haitians, diplomats, aid workers and, of course, foreign tourists. If you’re willing to leave that aside, Haiti is a place of colorful art, fascinating traditions, vibrant music and spiritual people.

9. Iraq – Made by the Sumerians and Babylonians the centre of the ancient world, Iraq has been under turmoil since the American’s invasion in 2003.

It doesn’t come as a surprise, considering the widespread civil violence, that Iraq isn’t one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Violence and kidnappings occur on a regular basis and are mainly aimed at foreigners. Once the home to the most ancient civilizations, Iraq is now a place where several distinct forces are competing for control.

8. Afghanistan – Once known as the centre of ancient empires or, in recent years, as a country with a great backpacking circuit, Afghanistan has been experiencing a lot of turmoil in the wars that have been waging for over 25 years. Presently, several areas of the country remain unsafe for travelers, particularly during the NATO-led operations against the Talibans and Al-Qaeda. Attacks targeting foreigners are ever frequent, especially suicide bombings concentrated around foreign embassies. Visitors are recommended to avoid gatherings, avoid travelling alone or at night. Afghanistan presently has one of the most volatile situations.

7. Chechnya – Ever since the Russian empire collapsed in 1991, southern Russian has been marked by the conflict between the Chechen separatists and the Russian forces, thus reducing almost most of the province to sad ruins of a long war. Rich in petro-chemicals, natural gas and oil, the country’s economy and infrastructure have been experiencing a serious crash, due to the on-going conflicts. Leaving that aside, Chechnya has a surprisingly beautiful mountainside, with its mineral waters, making it a great spa centre.

6. Nigeria – Africa’s most populous nation has a fascinating mixture of over 200 ethnic groups that, coupled with an unstable economy, often leads to a volatile situation. According to news reports, over 200 foreign oil workers have been kidnapped in the Niger Delta, most situations being resolved with a ransom.

5. Philippines – The archipelago consisting of 7,107 islands is a fascinating, laidback natural paradise, with friendly, engaging people. But there’s a reason we included Philippines among the countries most likely to get kidnapped. North Cotabato, Mindanao, Zamboanga peninsula, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and the Sulu archipelago are just a few areas that a traveller should necessarily avoid. Apart from the usual robberies and kidnappings, foreigners also risk having a drug put in their drink that knocks one out immediately. Tourists are then either robbed, raped or have their kidneys taken. 10 hours are needed to wake up from the drug and another three days to remember what happened.

4.Venezuela – With some of the most spectacular landscapes and the longest waterfall in the world, Venezuela truly is a sight not to be missed, if you’re willing to leave aside street crime, kidnappings or political turmoil. If not, know that street crime is present on a daily basis throughout the country. Tourists in Venezuela are the easiest target for pickpockets; so try to look like anything but a tourist. Don’t wear jewelry, watches, avoid unfolding maps, taking pictures and stay away from poor areas. To avoid problems, simply stay in the touristic areas.

3. Colombia – National parks, high mountains, cruise boats or soaring skyscrapers are just a few of the numerous attractions Colombia has to offer. Even though it might sound like an untroubled paradise, Colombia has its fair share of drug dealers, robberies and kidnappings. Even though safety has improved in recent years, Colombia still suffers from high kidnapping and homicide rates in urban areas. The extra violence is provoked by the guerrillas which operate mainly in rural areas – the places to be avoided are the border areas with Ecuador and Venezuela.

2. Brazil – The largest country in South America, teeming with beaches and untamed forests, Brazil is one of the most vibrant and colorful places on the continent. As with the other countries on the list, the downside is the street crime present in big cities, where attacks against tourists have become frequent. Apart from the usual kidnappings, there are also a high number of muggings; so simply leave your valuables at the hotel and take with you only a small amount of money. To top it all off, Brazil experienced an increase in the number of yellow fever and dengue fever cases, so be sure to have your shots before entering the country.

1. Mexico – With a mix of modern city life and a reminiscent ancient civilization, Mexico is one of the liveliest, yet most dangerous countries on the list. You’ll come across plenty of corruption and the usual street crime that comes with every big city. Kidnapping for ransom is fairly common, especially in border cities such as Tijuana, Nogales or Juarez. As with other cities on the list, try not to look like a tourist, avoid flashing shiny, expensive objects and you should be fine.

Detectives trail fraudsters using Osun StateGovernor Oyinlola’s number!!!!!!!

Detectives are on the trail of fraudsters using the phone number of Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in their attempt to dupe the state government and some banks.

A statement from Oyinlola’s Special Adviser on Media and Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Lasisi Olagunju, advised members of the public including corporate organisations not to transact any business with anybody using any of the governor's telephone numbers or those of his aides, without personally clearing it with the governor.

The fraudsters had last week Tuesday, sent text messages to the State Accountant General, using the governor’s MTN No, 08034040527 asking him to pay the sum of N15 million into bank accounts in Afribank and UBA.

The first text message reads, “AG, make a cash deposit of N15 million in favour of MORRIS DAVID NIG.ENT. Afri bank, 2086303335616 and Anthony Ejieji, UBA 00220520135918. Split seven and eight million respectively. Ensure utmost confidentially (sic) and act very urgent. Governor.”

It was followed hours later by two others from the same MTN number querying the Accountant General's delay to effect the order.

“What is the delay for? Do the deposit and get back to me. I will talk to you later in the evening concerning this. Governor,” the second text message read and was followed by a third one, “Why the delay? do the deposit and test(sic) me. I will talk to you in the evening. Governor.”

Again on Sunday December 28, 2008, another text message was sent from the same number, to an Executive Director of WEMA Bank, asking him to pay some money into Bank PHB Account No 124200001979 belonging to one Edward Duru.E.

The matter had since been reported to the police.

OSITA IHEME ATTEMPTS SUICIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The latest rumour about Osita Iheme, popularly known as Paw-Paw; is that the actor has been on a suicide watch since his girlfriend, Brenda, dumped him.

Reacting to the gist, Iheme claimed he didn't know any Brenda let alone committing suicide because of her.

“Can you imagine? Who is Brenda? No bi me o. I don't know any Brenda or Belinda. I don't know where the rumour is coming from.”

Rumour had it that Iheme had proposed marriage to one Brenda Gowon, who played along for a while, but later dumped him because of his size.

According to a story , Iheme had decided to kill himself by taking an overdose of sleeping tablets after spending so much money on Belinda whom he was engaged to for two months.

According to the story, Iheme told a close pal that, “The moment I saw her, I felt the earth move under my feet. The air got heavy and I could not breath. It was love before first kiss.”

It was alleged the actor bought a $3000 watch, $700 sunglasses and $1,500 Gucci purse, wrapped the gift items in a gold jewelry case and sent them to Brenda.

However, the actor said that the story on the net was the handiwork of scammers and fraudsters.

“Nothing like that ever happened to me. I have not proposed to any girl. Why would I want to commit suicide? Do you know what it means to commit suicide? Can you do it?”

According to the actor, the rumour does not bother him in any way.

“Na today? I don't feel bad joo. Let them continue to say rubbish about me. I know myself and I know the truth.

Osita Iheme, Kanayo O. Kanayo besiege Imo govt house for appointment!!!!!

FOLLOWING the recent appointment of actor and ace comedian, McAnthony Onyegbule (Okey Bakassi) into the Chief Ikedi Ohakim-led government and the looming cabinet reshuffle, the Imo State Government House has become a Mecca of sort to movie actors and actresses who under one guise or the other have continued to frequent Government House in search of appointments in the next cabinet shake up . But for the fact, that most of them are known faces, one man have mistaken them for contractors who frequently come to lobby for mobilization or full payment of job done for the government . Trend'tainment gathered that most of them are still clutching their heavily padded resumes about , while others have already sent across their tinkered curriculum vitae to some persons in the Government House believed to have the ear of the Governor. As at press time, two names are loudest in the desperate hustle to secure government appointment .They are Osita Iheme of the “Aki and PawPaw” fame who is said to be angling for appointment as ... wait for it , a Commissioner. Of all people also, is Kanayo O. Kanayo , who is said to be scheming for a Special Adviser position.

Tactically, Kanayo may have lost the slot to his kinsman, Okey Bakassi but be that as it may, flooding the Government House with actors and actresses may set the stage for an administration hinged on make-belief. Well, yours sincerely cannot entirely put them all down because if Barack Obama could be the President of America, then Osita Iheme can as well be a Commissioner in Imo State!

ASSERTIVE NAIJA WOMAN!!!!!!!

At the 1997 World Women's Conference the first speaker, from England, stood up:

"At last year's conference we spoke about being more assertive with our husbands.

Well, after the conference I went home and told my husband that I would no longer cook for him and that he would have to do it himself.

After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I saw that he had cooked a wonderful roast lamb." The crowd cheered.

The second speaker, from America, stood up:

"After last year's conference I went home and told my husband that I would no longer do his laundry and that he would have to do it himself.

After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I saw that he had done not only his own washing but my washing as well." The crowd cheered.

The third speaker, from Nigeria, stood up:

"After last year conference I go house and tell my husband that I no go do im cooking, cleaning or go market for am again, and dat he go dey do am imsef.

After the first day i no see anytin, the second day sef, I see notin. But after the third day, as the swelling begin go down, I start to see small small from my left eye.

9ICE AND DUBLIN SCANDAL!!!!!!!

Does Rave of the moment artiste, 9ice need to change his management?i don’t think so..but i think he has to keep his booking agent(s) on check!!!

The whole issue of double booking is really getting out of hand!! after collecting 1.75m upfront to perform at a gig in Ireland, 9ice fails to turn up without any notice!! now his fans in Ireland are dissapointed.. however, 9ices’ management claims that they did not show up because promoters wanted to fly them in illegally..

There has been several complaints from several quarters -from show promoters, to media houses even alaba marketers about 9ice’s “highly unprofessional manager.”

a bulk of the complaints stems from the artistes accepting an invitation to perform and never showing up with no reason whatsoever. 9ice is a hardworking artistes and it’ll be sad to see incompetence of another wreck his career!!! his publicity is good though (bigup to tony payne-akande for all her damage control) measures..guess what they say bout “behind every successful man…” is true, isn’t it?).

like i mentioned earlier, we gathered that 9ice was billed to perform at a show in Dublin courtesy of Krystal Promotion, a Dublin-based promotions/events management company, but failed to show up- after collecting N1.75m advance payment!!!on why he didn’t turn up management claims the promoter offered to fly them in illegally!!

however krystal promotions claim that his entry to Dublin was legit and was made well in advance.

“We Are Very Convinced the Reason Why 9ice did not Attend the Show is because he did not have his Passport with him. His passport was at the CANADIAN EMBASSY, as he is performing in Canada on the 4th of October 2008, this was confirmed from a Genuine Source. These is Double Booking an Artist which shouldn’t be done in the Entertainment Business, especially when you have entered into a Contract of Agreement with the proposed Promoter(THIS IS CLEARLY A BREACH OF CONTRACT),” said a spokesperson for Krystal Promotions.

Krystal Promotions say they intend to sue 9ice for damages. we’ll keep you posted on that.

IDEAL PRICE FOR YOUR NIGERIAN CD!!!!!!

In Nigeria, audio cds are sold for N150. while music entreprenuers still battle with piracy, the poor pricing of cd’s have scared away many music investors. while observers believe that the music industry is thriving, some showbiz entrepreneurs are of the oppinion that the Nigerian music industry is on life support with over 99% of its livelihood dependent on corporate Nigeria.

come to think of it, have artistes have really earned a living from cd sales? some artistes - about 20 of over 5million recording artistes in the country - have bagged good marketing and distribution deals at the expense of their debut album. in other words, their debut effort earned music markerters multiplatinum sales without a dime reaching the artiste’s pocket - maybe a thank -you-for-making-me -super-rich in the form of a brand new car!

thus marketers are encouraged to part away with lump sums as advance payment for their sophomore - that may not even cover the cost of their music videos anyway!!…..hmmn!!

SAHEED OSUPA VS ALAO MALAIKA!!!!!

VS

My nyja ppl it's funny how fuji singers in nyja too dey rapp about beef....why????.....i don't know but this is one of most funny stories i ever posted.................. During the unveiling and fund-raising dinner for the Yoruba Music and Film Awards (YOMAFA), what initially looked like a hitch-free event ended up with altercations that left the windscreen of Fuji Musician Saheed Osupa’s Chrysler Sedan smashed and several injured.

According to reports Osupa, on realising the damage done to his vehichle, left the venue in anger only to return with a band of policemen and all hell broke loose. The peaceful unveiling party/fundraiser metamorphosed into a battle between Mr Osupa and the Fuji Music Association of Nigeria.

On who was responsible for the attack of the Fuji star and his car, Mr Osupa pointed accusing fingers on his music rival, Sule Alao Maliaka. According to reports, Osupa stated that he was on his way out of the event after his performance when a group of people including Soji Taiwo aka Omo Banke, Seun Egbegbe, and Sule Alao Malaika were throwing things at his car. He immediately drove off to the nearby police station “as a law abiding citizen” to report the matter.

However Sule Alao Malaika recently released a press statment where he clears the air on what he calls a “false and libellous story being circulated by Saidi Okunola a.k.a Osupa.” In his statement, Malaika claims he was nowhere near the scene of the crime and was being implicated by Osupa. mr malaika stated that he was discussing with a couple of his friends including Alhaji Sule Adio Atatwewe when he “saw bottles and stones flying across from the road.”

“we all moved into the hall to wait for the crisis to die down,” he says.

he also doused every rumour that he was detained by the police as a result of his allerged involvment in the damage to Osupa’s Sedan, but admits he was taken in for questioning -alongside many memebrs of the Fuji Music Association of Nigeria - but released the same day!!

I"M NOT THE FATHER!!!!!

My nyja ppl this one story na fire o!!!!!!!!!! Dotun Oladipo alias ACURA, popular youth leader and grass root politician has vehemently denied that he is the father of the love child Genevieve had when she was 16 years old as claimed by her family.

Acura says he will not accept paternity until a DNA test is carried out. He claims that whatever happened between him and Genevieve occured when they were both very young and naive (Genevieve was 15 and Acura was 20 years old at the time). Acura further stated that he wasn’t the only one romantically involved with the then 15yr old and would not accept the paternity of the child until proper DNA tests was conducted. in his words: “without a proper DNA test done, i will not accept that i am the father of her daughter”

come to think of it, if Genny was 15 at the time, wouldn’t child abuse charges be waved at our loverboy. doesn’t that constitute as rape in some countries?boy, i love naija!!!....omo na nw i know say it don tey wey Gen Gen dey chop am.....

Mercy Johnson and Dbanj Affair!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mercy and D’Banj relationship started off as a fling, but Mercy has been telling people that she will do everything to maintain the love affair with the Koko master. I think Mercy have felt the power of the “Anaconda” and obviously enjoy the koko.

Ruky Sandra was supposed to have been the koko master main squeeze and word is that she is not very happy with Mercy Johnson.

I think both Mercy and Ruky are just side chicks and the koko master true wifey right now is music and money, sorry ladies.

Alhaji Bello!!!!!

Alhaji Bello

Here is a picture of some of his wives and children

Nigerian Mohammed Bello Abubakar, 84, has advised other men not to follow his example and marry 86 women.”A man with 10 wives would collapse and die, but my own power is given by Allah. That is why I have been able to control 86 of them,He says his wives have sought him out because of his reputation as a healer. “I don’t go looking for them, they come to me. I will consider the fact that God has asked me to do it and I will just marry them. To my understanding the Koran does not place a limit and it is up to what your own power, your own endowment and ability allows. God did not say what the punishment should be for a man who has more than four wives, but he was specific about the punishment for fornication and adultery.”

Here is what Alhaji Bello had to say:
“As soon as I met him the headache was gone. God told me it was time to be his wife. Praise be to God I am his wife now. I am now the happiest woman on earth. When you marry a man with 86 wives you know he knows how to look after them.”

Who Will Cry For P Square? and why P Square Dey Cry!!!!!!!!!!

Back in 2006 at the first Hip Hop World Awards, P Square went home with over 5 awards. P Square went to the this year awards show feeling very confident, they showed with their whole crew, all dressed up looking sharp and ready to pick up some awards, they were all looking like bad guys. But the joy didn't last long; the group was nominated for about 5 different categories but didn't win anything. A close friend told me they were close to tears leaving Planet One; they left the award show very quietly without speaking to any reporters.

Tuface Idibia set to wed his African Queen

Sensational R&B singer, and arguably Nigeria’s finest, Tuface Idibia, recently disclosed to the press his intentions to settle down.

Tuface also stated that although some of his fans may feel bad about some of his excesses(his baby making spree that is) he wants y’all to know he’s only human.

“I know people’s expectation of me is obviously not having kids from different women. But the fact is that I love my kids, and I’m just going to take care of them. I’m going to turn whatsoever bad situation to a positive one.” he says.

Although Tuface would not disclose who the lucky lady he is ready to settle down with is, the r&b singer affirmed that he would tie the knot formally in 2009 and raise a family the right way.

Who is this mystery lady? could it be his longtime sweetheart Anne Macaulay, or maybe his baby mama of two, Pero Adeniyi? [we gather that Pero and Tuface have settled their differences as they gathered friends and family members to the dedication of their newborn son, Justin Agaba Oluwafemi Idibia on Sunday 7 December 2008].0r could she be someone he met recently in some distant land? I’ll keep you posted.

Nigeria: Drink-Drive And Go to Jail for Two Years - FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission said yesterday in Abuja that motorists who drive under the influence of intoxicating drug or alcohol will get a two-year jail sentence.

He said, "In line with Section 22 of FRSC (Establishment) Act 2007, a person who drives a motor vehicle on a highway under the influence of intoxicating drug or alcohol above 0.5 grams per litre of alcohol or to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of such vehicle, shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a fine of five thousand Naira or to imprisonment to a term not exceeding two years or to both such fine and imprisonment."

He said alcohol works quickly to slow down the mind of people and motor skills, hence, causing profound effect on reaction time as well as lead to poor coordination. He said the effect of alcohol can also cause impaired vision and hearing, poor judgement and false sense of confidence.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), FCT Branch, Ugwu Henry Ejiofor, said selling liquor in motor parks makes drivers more vulnerable to excessive drinking habit. He said the FRSC in conjunction with other law enforcement agents would stop the selling of alcoholic drinks and intoxicants at motor parks

Naija Celebrities Campaign against Armed Robbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The original Koko Master, D’banj, DJ Tee and some other Naija celebrities were on the streets of Lagos on the 10th of November 2008. Too many celebrities have been attacked recently; Tuface is an obvious target for a few times. May be we need to set up an Area Boys Trust fund, so a small percentage from album sales and shows will go to the area boys for protection because it be like say Kokomaster dey fear...lol
